By contrast, adenovirus-mediated rat Ido1 overexpression in cardiomyocytes promoted hypertrophic growth induced by Ang II. Mechanism analysis showed that IDO1 overexpression was associated with PI3K-AKT-mTOR signaling to activate the ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (S6K1), which promoted protein synthesis in Ang II-induced hypertrophy of rat cardiomyocytes. Finally, we provided evidence that inhibition of PI3K with pictilisib, AKT with perifosine, or mTOR with rapamycin, blocked the effects of IDO1 on protein synthesis and cardiomyocyte hypertrophy in Ang II-treated cells. However, HIV risk is not only a function of sexual behavior, but is also affected by factors such as antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence. We examined whether HIV-positive partners in serodiscordant male couples who have better communication about SAs and report concordant SAs with their partners have greater odds of being adherent to ART to not only improve their health, but to also reduce the risk of transmitting HIV to partners. We analyzed longitudinal data from 135 HIV-positive partners in serodiscordant male couples recruited from Atlanta, GA, Boston, MA, and Chicago, IL to examine the relationship between optimal ART adherence and two independent variables communication about SAs and if the couples have discrepant SAs. HIV-positive male partners who reported high levels of communication regarding SAs had nearly three times the odds of optimal adherence to ART compared to those who reported lower levels. Cardiac surgery simulators with heart phantoms have shown usefulness for such training, but they are limited in visualization and characterization of complex VSD. This study explores a new method to build patient-specific heart phantoms with VSD, with proper tissue echogenicity for ultrasound imaging.
Heart phantoms were designed from preoperative imaging of three patients with complex VSDs. Each whole heart phantom, including atrial and ventricular septums, was obtained by manual segmentation and by surface reconstruction, then by molding and by casting in different materials. Heart phantoms in silicone and polyvinyl alcohol cryogel (PVA-C) were considered, and they were reconstructed in 3-D using 2-D freehand ultrasound imaging.
An electromagnetic measurement system was used to measure the mean VSD diameters from the heart phantoms. Errors were evaluated below 1.0 mm for mean VSD diameters between 6.2 and 7.5 mm.

Although its accumulation and fate in agricultural soils have been previously studied, its colloidal transport and accumulation along slopes through erosion have been studied to a lesser extent in viticulture soils. To bridge this gap, the contents and potential mobility of U were investigated in vineyard model soils in the Rhineland-Palatinate region, Germany. In addition to elevated U contents, U was expected to associate with colloids and subject to erosion, thus accumulating on slope foots and in soils with fine structure, and reflecting a greater variability. Moreover, another expectation was the favorable erosion/mobility of U in areas with greater carbonate content. This was tested in three regional locations, at different slope positions and through soil horizon depths, with a total of 57 soil samples. The results show that U concentrations (0.48-1.26 ppm) were slightly higher than proximal non-agricultural soils (0.50 ppm), quite homogenous along slope positions, and slightly higher in topsoils. Assuming a homogeneous fertilization, the vertical translocation of U in soil was most probably higher than along the slope by erosion. In addition, carbonate content and soil texture correlated with U concentrations, whereas other parameters such as organic carbon and iron contents did not. The central role of carbonate and soil texture for the prediction of U content was confirmed using decision trees and elastic net, although their limited prediction power suggests that a larger sample size with a larger range of U content is required to improve the accuracy. Overall, we did not observe neither U nor colloids accumulating on slope foots, thus suggesting that soils are aggregate-stable. Lastly, we suggested considering further soil parameters (e.g., Ca2+, phosphorus, alkali metals) in future works to improve our modelling approach. Overall, our results suggest U is fortunately immobile in the studied locations.
